Late Night Dining in Phoenix

Postby matthew on Tue Mar 07, 2006 11:20 pm

This is off-topic for sure but what the heck. What restaurants are open late in Phoenix? Like after 10, on weeknights?

Delux is the first place that comes to mind. Any others?

It's funny you posted on this subject as we were in the same boat this evening. We had 5 and Diner on 16th and Colter. Not as nice as Delux but a decent option. Also try Western Pizza a neighborhood hot spot at 48th St and Indian School.

We left 5 and Diner last time we went in past 10 because the smoke was so bad as we waited. We then drove up Cave Creek Road to a random tacqueria along the mountains somewhere.

I recall Chuy's Mesquite Broiler up on Bell near 19th Ave. being open past 10 so we could dine after our night classes ended until 11 at least. Matthew remembers differently. This was before we had a kid, though, and everything before and after that is a vague blur of recollection of ANY late night dining experience....

I miss days of Barmouche.

I know that Christopher's Fermier is open late on weekends but how about weekdays, too?

I think Fate is open late in Downtown Phoenix- it is the red house off of like 4th street and Garfield or something- serves Polynesian food I think??
Good stuff!

Fire in the Taco Bell!

Postby Mr. Natural on Wed Mar 08, 2006 4:11 am

Here are some lower grade, and perhaps more obvious, options:

Jack in the Box (24hr) -- "They don't make it until I order it." However, I usually start 'making it' while I'm eating it. Ah well, tastes better than bran flakes.

Arby's (24hr) Good sandwiches. Please note that most locations do not take debit/credit cards.

Certain McDonald's locations are open 24hr now(although they've done something weird with their cheeseburgers recently). Try the Shamrock shake (limited time only)-- kinda smells like Ben Gay, but it's flippin' DELICIOUS.

Denny's is 24hrs (including the Camelback/16th street location and the "Gay Denny's" at 7th street and Camelback). Hard to beat the 'Super Bird' or 'Moons over my Hammie'. Our waitress had a cast on her arm and, feeling a bit fruity, I asked, "What happened to your arm?" She replied, "My boyfriend broke it during an argument last week." I said, "Yowch -- hey, can I get the club sandwich without bacon?"

It's my desire...

Taco Bell is open until 1am or 2am in most locations. I love Taco Bell. I wish they would put a large wheel or slot machine apparatus next to the drive thru. It would be cool to just pull a lever or spin the wheel and get a random combo from the menu. Everything tastes great and is very inexpensive -- so wonderful that I often can't decide...

Good Samaritan's Cafeteria (just the grill) is open from 11pm-2am. The veggie burger is overpriced but tasty.

Del Taco is open 24hrs, but I don't eat there. I went to the one on (?)3rd avenue once (the one attached to the gas station), and my order was taken by a guy who appeared to have some kind of flesh-eating bacterial infection. I paid for the food, walked it outside and placed it in the dumpster. I did an 8 minute surgical scrub when I got home and ate some instant oatmeal instead.

Anyone like Wendy's?

Or how about Tee Pee. I think they are open late.

Now they do have great food and cheap to boot.

California Pizza Kitchen at the Biltmore is open until 10:30 I believe.

Thanks for the rundown, Natch. I'm still chuckling about the guy with the bacterial infection. And yeah I like Wendy's, why?

Honestly I was hoping for more upscale and culinarily interesting options. Perhaps we will try Fate or the TeePee. I'm off to email that guy with the Phoenix blog that registered here a few weeks back...

Upscale I don't know but for culinarily (is that a word?) ineteresting fare open late you need to try Lo Lo's Chicken and Waffles. The food is outstanding and the service is great. Its located at Central and Yuma about half a mile south of downtown. If you haven't been there you are truly missing a wonderful experience. And make sure you get the Kool-Aid.

late night in phoenix

Postby hmlauer on Wed Mar 08, 2006 12:52 pm

Fate is one of the best late night options downtown - they serve Asian food. It's one of my favorite restaurants in Phoenix. Bobby C's at 11th Street and Washington is also open late and they usually have live music. That is a soul food restaurant - also very good. Fez on Central is open until midnight during the week - it's a hip new restaurant that serves mediterranean food. Those are the three best ones that come to mind immediately.

lol. That needs to be added to the dictionary. I've never heard anyone call it "Jenny's," just "Gay Denny's" or "the Gay Denny's."
