Laser Cutting

I've seen many ideas on HGTV that use computer controlled laser cutting machines to create any cutout patterns you can design. Does anyone know exactly what it would be called or where in Phoenix I could find places that do this procedure? I have an idea for a screen that I want done in MDF and this technique would be perfect. Thanks for any information you come up with.

I'm not certain you can employ a "hot" technique such as a CNC laser/plasma table for MDF. You could use a waterjet, but that's akin to slicing your dinner roll with a samurai sword. I'd look for a company who does CNC routing, such as this local guy:

Also, check out this post on CNC-cut vinyl lattice and screens... may save some time and money versus a custom-designed, low-volume piece, although I really dig one-off stuff a little more myself.

Thanks Tinman, All three of those first links have CNC Routing capabilities which is exactly what I am am looking for. I though laser cutting might be extreme. When I finish my project, I will post a photo. Thanks again

Tinman hit it on the nose, I'm guessing you wanted to cut some thicker mdf board. Laser cutting works best on materials thinner than a quarter inch, you can get away with thicker stuff if the material is soft. Also, the bed size limits what you can do, the beds are usually a bit on the small side. CNC works better, and water jet cutting only makes sense for hardwoods and metals.
