Peace brownie anyone?

Postby hectoracuna on Thu Jan 05, 2006 6:51 am

Whoa! I'm definitely joining the association! I'm so sorry I missed THAT meeting. I'm laying off the "Confessor" though, too harsh for me. 8)

Seems to me that Mercedes has some peculiar expectations both from her clients and from this forum. First, a real estate agent has no "lasso of truth" and cannot possibly expect absolute truth and disclosure from a client (or I guess you expect, but...). Same goes for client. Get real, IT'S REAL ESTATE! The industry has a wee bit of a reputation, just a little bit. (No disrespect, but come-on)

As for this forum. Sooo sorry Mercedes but you can't control it. If you post, then you are open to critical review. Can't have it both ways, this can't just be a personal "FOR SALE" sign. And that goes for all agents. If you sell a scary, overpriced, taxidermy house, expect a scary (if not humorous) response. If you try and sell an overpriced house in a "dodgy" neighborhood, expect criticism. THAT is the forum and please keep your sales pitches within the "Marketplace" forum.

As for our place. You may not have said "That house is ugly" but clearly Irie detected some negativity. And guess what? WE DON'T CARE, we can take criticism --you gotta roll with it. We had our choice of three Havers in a row, yes yours too, and we still chose to resurrect the virtual crack house on the block. We chose it over your place, it had twice the interior space, and no pool, the yard space our border collies required.

PEACE, RESPECT, YA'll

Yeah, what would we do without the internet?

By the way, heres the link to RVNA's website where I found the minutes.

The site appears to be down now, but you all should check it out, they have some of the coolest animated fractals I've ever seen.

oh! my! god! becky! that was the most hilarious post, mr. natural. my sides still hurt! especially since we just rec'd our welcome pot last night.... and i ate a whole box of chocolate donuts afterward! ;)

i met mercedes yesterday, and i have to say, she seems like a nice person. she truly means no harm. we all need to just work together as a team, not take offense at what someone says or doesn't say, or what someone says someone said, and not let things get out of control. i'm usually pretty damn sarcastic, and if you don't know that about me, then you might take things the wrong way, but so be it, we can't have this whole world going all p.c. on us now can we? NO! i'm sure i'll offend one or all of you at some point, that's the fun of being alive. hats off to everyone for speaking their mind and to alison and matthew for letting us. not enough people actually have the courage to speak these days.

there is a RVNA meeting next tuesday that i am going to plan on attending. i think it's 6:30 in the basement of the presbyterial (sp?) church. i do want to make a difference in the neighborhood, so hopefully i'll see some of you there. maybe we can actually make it to yoshi's before they close this time.... i'll bring the chocolate donuts.

A little tact

Postby hectoracuna on Fri Jan 06, 2006 9:05 am

Oh, yes. No problem here Mercedes. Alex is right on, we all have differing styles of expressing ourselves and in the way we write. Some are short and to-the-point, and some are longwinded, but all positive contributions to this on-line community.

I truly have yet to see anything that was over the line, a credit to the members and to the moderators. We all have much to learn about each other and the places we live, the good, the bad, and all that goes.

I gotta tell you, life is offensive, we can’t all live in a PC bubble of white picket fences and little pink houses. Political correctness is, well, FAKE. Feigning your true feelings to pacify someone else is good for no one. All that is needed is a little TACT*, and there should be no subject out of bounds.

A little preachy, I know, but I respect all of you whether you post or not. My disrespect has to be earned.

Seeking a Haver in Central PX

Postby lbrownaz on Sun Jan 15, 2006 11:16 am

Just found this board. It's nice to see so many modern enthusiasts. I had been looking for a house in the Historic Districts but the '20s - '40s designs just don't sing the way modern open plan designs do. I fell in love with a Haver in Marlen Grove, South of Bethany Home and West of 12th St. Rancho Ventura is farther east than I would like, although the RVNA meetings sound like interesting. If anyone hears of a Haver more centrally located please let me know!
Just bought a bland ranch that I want to turn into a mid-century gem...

Big Chief

Postby hectoracuna on Tue Jan 17, 2006 10:19 am

Hey Alex
This was the correct post, somehow the conversation veered off to the former Big Chief Silkscreen Shop. The price on that property is $249K. I’m having the realtor on the sign fax me the listing today. Perhaps Mercedes could get us in there this Saturday to check out the interior. According to realtor it’s half office space and half warehouse space. Also curious about the parking situation, wondering if the office building next door allows for parking, otherwise there appears to be no public parking for that lot.

Hector,

Read your post. Would love to work with you & anyone else for the
good of the all & the neighborhood. Turning it into a coffee shop
is a great idea. If you want me to show it, let me know. Maybe you
can email me privately since I don't check this site that often anymore.

Thanks,
Mercedes

hector, give me a call (i think i gave you my no.) or stop my house by if you want to see this with me, i've been working with friend/realtor heather cook on it. or if you want to do it on your own and work w/mercedes, fine by me, it's not "my" building.... yet... ;0 so whoever can make this work, by all means DO IT! right now it's just a pipe dream, but it would be sooooooo cool to walk to work.... paaaaaaaint..... have some coffee, hang out.... buy a purse that some local designer made.... and a pad of homemade paper... ;) the only way i think it might work is if we could all form a partnership, get some financing (i don't know if i can get a small business loan, etc.) and go that route. it's really cheap for the amount of space you get! 5500 sq. ft. for $249K and it's been on the market a LONG time so we could bid low.... parking is the problem, maybe we could figure something out... knock out the back and put parking in? i'm really dreaming now, but it's a start.... we've all got to dream....
