Interesting Pictures from 1957

These pictures are from the October 1957 issue of "ARIZONA HOMES"-I collect old magazines and picked this up a few years ago here in town. Sure looks like a Haver to me, but you experts would know for sure. Wish they had the exact address listed! This particular issue has a special feature called the "March of The Models" and has tons of model homes inside. There is a Maryvale house I am going to show pictures of on the main board, because it is GORGEOUS and I have a special affinity for Maryvale.
Anyway, enjoy the pictures! The kitchen pictures are on the opposite page of the house pictures-I am going to assume that the appliances in the ad were in the original house, as they are mentioned.

Oh my gosh we have a Tappan oven in our house. I had no idea the company had been around for 76 years back in the 50's wow. Now I am definitly not getting rid of that bad boy. The pictures are great. Are these items for sale? Do you have anything with Windemere in it? Very cool magazines. Thanks for sharing with us.

You're right, that is a Haverhood called by many names: Rancho Ventura/Rancho Vista/Town and Country II/Town & Country Manor. "The House with a future!".... gotta love it. Our Rancho members are going to die when they see this. Thanks for posting!

I have tons of magazines, so I will dig around and see what else I can come up with. I have 2 complete years of "The American Home" from 1947 and 1948, plus some really cool Better Homes and Gardens. It might take awhile but I will keep my eyes peeled for Phoenix mentions...could you refresh me-Windemere is where again? This is all so new and exciting!

Some similar publications are available as reference material at local libraries. I go to the SW room at the Scottsdale Civic Center library and look at old magazine and newspapers, from time to time. They have copies of old home and architecture magazines and newspapers that I've copied articles/ads from. They may even have old copies of this publication. I'll call and find out.
I recently found some old ads for Papago Gardens and some old articles and ads referencing Haver, as well. Most of the good stuff is on microfiche...gotta love the dizzy spell that follows after hours of scanning.

When I bought my house I came across lots of similar magazines ( the woman who owned the home previously died and left a lot of stuff here). After researching stuff at Phoenix Public Library, I disocvered that Woodworth built a lot of Haver homes. I have one magazine that is a survey of new builds in Phoenix in the late 50's-early 60's that has pictures of model homes with the builder's and architect's names mentioned- if I could just figure out how to use my scanner and computer, I might be able to post them. I can't remember exaclty which magazine (it is a Phoenix home and gardens type deal at the downtown library- there are not many of them so it is easy to find) that has some pictures of a house in Windemere by Haver. It is a showcase of a couple's new home when they bought it. Might be of interest - sorry I can't remember the exact name of the magazine, but it is in the archive section of the downtown library in a late 50's copy (I think there might be 5 or 6 late 50's copies). There are only a couple of home type magazines that were published at that time.

One of my neighbors who has lived here since 1959 told me that they were practically giving away houses here in Marlen Grove in the late 50's/early sixties- no one wanted to live in cinderblock houses with vaulted ceilings and metal cabinets ( I guess those were the original). These houses sat on the market awhile and offered a lot of incentive (such as special financing and down payment options) for purchasing one. Now they sell in two hours.

We are in the process of remodeling and expanding our Haver and are trying to use some sort of roofing material other than the rolled type or foam. When I bought the house 10 years ago I had a 3 tab shingle installed, but because the pitch of the existing and new sections is less than 12" to 2" no one will install or warranty it. There are some really cool metal products out there, but they are cost prohibitive in the grand scheme of what we are spending on this project (aint in the budget). Anyone have any ideas or any names & numbers of roofers to talk to.

Would it be weird to use quartz rock ballast on your roof? So very Palm Springs. Maybe someone here can find us some good photos examples or rock ballast roofs to look at today, I'm at work....

Why are you staying away from foam? I have heard great things about it.

I'd listen to the roofers about the 3-tab. I would be concerned with water seeping back up under the tabs with these low pitch roofs.

Not too crazy about it. I understand its an excellent material. White quartz rock migh work. That the type of foof I removed 10 years ago when I first bought the house.

Anyone have any experience with roofing companies that have reroofed a Haver?

I was too fixated on my roof to ask about the 1957 pictures. I did not see them in this forum. Any chance that they could be emailed to me? They might be helpful with our remodel.
