WOW! What a day. I just got back from spending the entire day touring some of the most incredible homes & studios in the entire southern city. We saw the Studio of Rick Joy who in my opinion is one of the greatest modern day architects, toured a home designed by Line & Space LLC who also designed the Campbell Cliffs house, saw several urban infill housing projects in Downtown, met and toured the home of Richard Williams, FAIA who is in his nineties and still practicing, and more! Modern overload! I hope some of you had the opportunity to go as well. I feel so bad for not posting the info about it but just found out yesterday. I myself took over 120 photos and one of my collogues ran out of memory in his camera. Send me an e-mail if you would like to seesome of the shots. Maybe we can get Pixie to post a few.

For the Arroyo House -

I would imagine sitting out on the patio and watching the arroyo fill up over the course of a rainstorm would be an exhilerating experience

I regards to the arroyo house, we were talking to the architect and he was explaining about the concrete bridge that carries you across the arroyo (shown in the third pic) was actually made by a company that builds freeway flyovers. Now that you know this now look at the pic again... it looks like a piece of highway! Another interesting fact is that the house is only around 3,000 s.f. livable but is 15,000 s.f under roof! That is mainly due to the large cantilevered overhangs and outdoor space. When the arroyo runs during heavy rain it is over 3 feet deep. Imagine in the 4th pic sitting down starring out the window at a raging waters below! Reminds me soo much of Falling Water in PA by FLW.
