Hi, I'm Bill.

My childhood resembled a tour of modernist and especially Googie architecture. My parents were traveling musicians and every bar, resort and restaurant they played (this was back in the 70's and early 80's) seemed an example of the genre. I later ended up buying and renovating MCM houses near Arcadia and Royal Palm (on Cheery Lynn and North 12th Avenue). I guess I have it in my blood.

I currently own an MCM ranch house (1963) in Colorado, but I spend most of my time down here.

Hi there my name is Christina.
I moved to Phoenix about 3 years ago but never
had the chance to experience some of the stuff that I have
seen in Modern Phoenix. I do love modernism and I am
obsessed with DIY related topics.

Alison from Modern Phoenix is my instructor so I learned about
Modern Phoenix through her. I never actually got a chance to read some
of the topics until now and I'm loving it!

Hello All,

My family moved to Scottsdale in 1963 when I was just a little kid. Grew up in a Hallcraft Tri-level but had many friends that lived in Beadle & Haver homes. Always thought they were pretty cool and remember that my parents really liked them, but our family needed the bigger size that the Hallcraft three stories provided.

I have enjoyed reading the various posts for the last month as I have been browsing the website. Really enjoy looking at the old brochures and photographs from the 60's. Reminds me of my days listening to KRIZ & KRUX, watching movies at The Kachina Cinerama and Round-Up Drive Ins, and driving to Farrells, Snyders Deli and Ranch House Burgers in Scottsdale.

Have a very good friend that will be selling his Beadle home in Paradise Gardens soon and I will keep you posted on his timetable.

Ah yes, Farrells! I found a bunch of cool marketing material on the Hallcraft tri-levels and even an ad for my parent's floorplan this week circa 1958. Welcome to the boards and hope to hear from you soon on that Beadle in the Marketplace!

Hi modernphoenix friends! We purchased a home in Star of Paradise about a year and a half ago and are finally living in a MCM home of our own. It was redone by a flipper, but they did a very nice job by sodablasting the brick, installing new wood floors, retexturing the drywall, and installing all new cabinets and fixtures. I am an Industrial Designer and my wife is a Teacher. I also build custom cars, and now that I have finished a huge car project, I am looking forward to building lots of modern furniture and custom touches for our home. I would also love to start creating custom items from furniture to fences for neighboring modern homes too.

That's great! Be sure to post images in our Marketplace when you get into the fence business, it's always a very popular request.

Hi. My name is Scott and I'm a Mid-Century Modernista.

Postby nosescott on Sun Jan 01, 2012 10:49 pm

I'm an on-again-off-again 602'er with about 10 years of occupancy since '89. I'm a huge mcm fan and just recently got back from the Springs of Palm on a massive home tour. Anyway, the reason for the post is to say Hi but to also find out how to get more specific info on doing my own neighborhood driving tour. I'll be back moving my now-retired father to his retirement dream Jan.11-19 and I'd like to do some drive-by oogling when I'm not arguing with him that not everyone is trying to run a scam on "the dumb retired guy."

I dated a girl who lived in a swell condo in that area behind Hotel Valley Ho (A client my ad agency had for exactly one day) so I know that area. I also have an acquaintance who lives just north of Fashion Square in that little enclave off Scotty Rd. I lived in north Phoenix but not sure of specific blocks in Sunnyslope so that's kinda what I'd be looking for in terms of "go here." There's some areas on the west siiiiiide but I'm also not sure of those cross-streets.

Thanks in advance. Here's a snap from PS if you care. =)

Hi Scott, Welcome! You can click on the MAP link at the top of any of our pages to be taken to a large map of all areas of MCM interest and a couple of colored "paths" that are fan favorites, churches, haverhoods, etc. If you find the PATHS tab on the map you can then click the little CAR icon and find driving directions (more or less) through google maps. :-) Also on our home page you can find a link to the 2006 Top Ten favorite neighborhoods PDF which, while old, is really a nice little day tour.

Hi folks,
I've been a lurker for a while now but have just recently moved back to Phoenix and have begun actively scoping out the Haver real estate scene and thought I'd join up. Hopefully within the next 6mos-1year I'll be a MCM owner and not just a fan.

Hello All!

My name is Cionne McCarthy, I've been a real estate agent for Russ Lyon Sotheby's International Realty for the past 30 years here in Scottsdale.

I often list Modern Contemporary homes for sale, most notably the one-of-a-kind designed and built by Frank Lloyd Wright home on 5212 E Exeter Blvd. Phoenix, AZ 85018, for his son David. I absolutely love this property and find the architectural style developed by Frank Lloyd Wright to be magnificent and inspiring.

Hello Everyone!
My name is Wesley James. My business partner Brian Stark and I run a small design/build firm: STARKJAMES, llc.
As both an architect and a builder I have been visiting and loving MoPho for years. We are staunch modernists and are currently wrapping-up the design for a remodel & addition to the 1963 Straub/Kutch home on Osborn. We have used ModernPhoenix not only to help research this project, but many others as well! Looking forward to giving updates once we start construction in May. For now I'll say that we took Calvin Straub's later-developed ideas on massing, introspection and private courts as a launching point for our design. Will post renderings and before/after photos for those interested. Thanks again to ModernPhoenix.net for providing this unique home for all things modern!

Welcome Wesley, that place turned out great! Do you have a link to it for everyone? Or you could put it in the Marketplace.
