Looking for a dog sitter

Postby angelique on Thu Oct 16, 2008 12:56 pm

I know there are a lot of dog lovers here... Could someone recommend a good dog sitting service? I would just need someone to come by 2-3 a day to feed/walk/play with my two dogs.

Thanks in advance

Post if you find someone good! I bribe my father to come down from Utah and watch our animals :)

They have quite possibly the worst website I've ever had the misfortune of clicking on, but we used these guys last time we went out of town. http://www.theanimalskingdom.com/ The dogs were still in one piece when we came home. Short of installing nanny-cams around the house, you never can be sure what happens when you aren't there, but it appeared as if they were well taken-care of.

While we're on the subject of dogs, I'm seeking an exceptional groomer, preferably a mobile one since one of the dogs has a car sickness thing. Any recommendations?

Jellybean, I have used Lydia at Wag 'n Wash a few times for our German Shepherd and our English Bulldog. However, they don't require cuts. What kind of dog do you have? I consider Lydia an angel because she patiently does the job even though our GSD barks for the *entire* time he's there.

Which sitter did you use at The Animals Kingdom?

Angelique, you might consider asking your vet for a referral. I'll post on a local dog list I'm on and see if anyone has a referral.

Fetch is a new service in central phoenix... http://www.fetchpetcare.com

You can call Vicki at 602-903-4385; she's very personable. I can't speak for the other Arizona areas, but I personally know one of the sitters, Jen Henry who works in Central Phoenix.

We are 'north central' - near 32nd and Shea, and have been using Polly's Paws for a few years. Do not think they travel south of Squaw Peak.

This is without question the most professional service we've encountered...but certainly not the cheapest :)

Given the size of the valley, make sure any potential service will come to your area.
For every complex question there is a simple answer, and it is wrong.

Re: Looking for a dog sitter - FOUND

I wanted to update this post. After trying out a few folks I found an incredible pet sitter several months back... her background is as a vet tech and she's one of the nicest people I know. She is extremely reliable AND well priced. She takes extra good care of my dogs and I have total peace of mind when I am traveling! I would recommend her without reservation.

Since my last post... Jen Henry has started her own service...

MoPho's will particularly like her graphics (not that they won't like her services, but you get the idea)...

Another vote for Jen's Pet Sitting! We used her services over Thanksgiving and were so happy, she sent us a text every day (to ease our minds), left a daily report card, a toy for the cats and some cookies for us. What wonderful personal touches! Highly recommend her!
