Welcome to ModernPhoenix!
I'm Alison King -- also known as PixelPixie -- and I'm the founder of Modern Phoenix, along with my husband Matthew who has driven us both around Phoenix seeking out good examples of midcentury domestic architecture over the last six years. Gradually we built up this formidable image bank of local architecture. So being a certifiable design dork I made a web page about our findings in the summer of 2003, and the rest is history.
Slowly word got out about us, and people have been contacting me to provide their own information and photos, or simply comment and say thanks. I thought how neat it would be if we could network up all the homeowners and become a real resource for all the other local modernism enthusiasts out there seeking inspiration and information about how to own and enjoy their slice of the American Dream.
So our message boards were born. You'll see a couple of familiar names around there, I bet, maybe even your neighbors! Think of this area as your endless backyard fence where you can poke your head over and say hi, or swap information and resources about your projects and passions.
Some of Arizona's finest writers, design researchers and professionals have contributed to the network. We pride ourselves on not only bringing you plenty of opinions, but fact-filled primary source material that helps you understand our area's design history better.
